First Contact
Lo giuro, realised in 1987, is one of Cavenago's first works in galvanised steel. The parallelepiped of regular proportions, composed of galvanised sheet metal, has an opening specifically designed to accommodate the observer's right hand. This gesture of oath, associated with the use of the right hand, has its roots in ancient traditions, permeating the depths of different cultures and religions. Interestingly, the Bible itself has attributed to God's right hand a symbolism of power and creation, thus sealing the importance of this gesture.
This ritual, handed down from generation to generation, reflects the many facets of cultural, religious and symbolic traditions that have stratified over the centuries. Despite its static and imposing, almost monumental presence, Lo giuro attempts, through its slit for the support of the right hand, a first interactive contact. In an almost ceremonial act, the observer seems to swear, in the most metaphorical sense of the term, loyalty and trust to the artistic path that Cavenago would undertake in the following years.
